The Townsville Cruising Yacht Club was established in approximately 1967. The goal and purpose of the club is to promote and encourage yachting on a competitive and social basis. In the early 1980’s the Townsville Cruising Yacht Club started operating from the Townsville Motor Boat Club. In 1999 the TCYC was incorporated into the TMBC and collectively we are known as the Townsville Yacht Club.
Our signature event is the Sunferries Magnetic Island Race Week (www.magneticislandraceweek.com.au) held in early September each year. This is one of the fastest growing Regattas in Australia, experiencing strong growth in entrants each year.
The TCYC also hosts regular racing for Yachts each year. Competition for the Commodore’s Cup takes place between late February and late October and consists of a combination of offshore and inshore racing.
A regular Social Sail is conducted each Wednesday Evening. A short pursuit style sail on the waters of Cleveland Bay is followed by a prize giving, socialising and raffles at the TYC.
The Townsville to Port Hinchinbrook Blue Water Classic is held each year at Easter. The Blue water Classic is proudly sponsored by the Port Hinchinbrook Resort.
